It is the base of the popular "Queimada", whose origin is established between the 11th and 12th centuries, coinciding with the construction of the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela.
In the seventeenth century the description of the stills for the distillation of marc appears. However, its origin must be much earlier. The alchemists of the convents and religious orders transmitted their knowledge in this regard. The Camino de Santiago was also a vehicle for transmitting its secrets. The alcohol obtained from them was also used for religious and cosmetic purposes.
